Root canal treatment in Berlin Mitte
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is required when the nerve of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, often due to deep cavities, trauma, or repeated dental procedures. The goal of this treatment is to save the natural tooth, restore its function, and alleviate pain.
At our practice in Berlin Mitte, we utilize cutting-edge technology, including microscopic endodontics, to perform precise root canal treatments and ensure the long-term health of your teeth.

Root canal treatment procedure
- Root canal treatment is typically performed under local anesthesia to ensure you experience no pain during the procedure. For added comfort, we also offer nitrous oxide or sedatives upon request.
- To protect the treated tooth from bacterial contamination, a rubber dam – a small rubber sheet – is placed around the tooth. This isolates the tooth and prevents disinfectant solutions or instruments from affecting the rest of your mouth.
- Using a dental microscope, the root canal system is meticulously cleaned. The canals are disinfected and sealed to prevent bacteria from entering. Modern tools such as electrical length measurement devices and low-radiation digital X-rays allow for precise treatment planning and execution.
- Once the cleaning is complete, the root canals are disinfected again, often with ultrasound activation for deeper cleaning. The tooth is then sealed with a modern filling material and closed with a plastic seal to keep it bacteria-free.
- In some cases, especially with severe inflammation, multiple sessions may be required. If this happens, we place a special medication in the tooth between visits and temporarily seal it until the next appointment. Each session usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours.
Revision Root Canal Treatment
A revision root canal treatment is required when a previous procedure hasn’t been successful. This can happen for several reasons, such as insufficient cleaning, incomplete or faulty filling, undetected canals, or damage to the tooth like cracks or fractures. Additionally, poorly fitted dental work can lead to complications. Chronic inflammation at the root tip can often go unnoticed but may cause long-term health issues if left untreated.
During a revision treatment, we first remove the old filling material and carefully clean the root canals. Once cleaned, the canals are thoroughly disinfected and then refilled with new, high-quality materials. The goal of this treatment is to eliminate any remaining infection and ensure the long-term preservation of the tooth.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment
Preserve the natural tooth and avoid dental prostheses such as bridges or implants.
Eliminate toothache and ensure long-term freedom from discomfort.
Thoroughly cleaned and sealed root canals protect against re-infection and preserve the surrounding tissue.
Apicoectomy – Last Resort to Save Your Tooth
If a root canal retreatment isn’t successful, an apicoectomy (root tip resection) may be necessary. This minor surgical procedure removes the infected root tip and surrounding tissue to stop inflammation and preserve the tooth.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring a painless experience. Once healed, the tooth can function normally without discomfort and remain stable for the long term.
